Class of 1985 Scholarship

Description

MSHS students from the Class of ’85 grew up in an analog world. We listened to music on records, cassettes and Walkmans, used typewriters, word processors and landline phones—we didn’t have smartphones or social media. Our social activities included Friday night football, the roller rink and movies at the Delft, Nordic or Airport Drive-In theatres. In our era we witnessed the launch of MTV “Video killed the Radio Star” and experienced the evolution of video games from the first Atari game “Pong” to favorites like Miss Pacman, Centipede, Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros. We saw the birth of the internet as we know it with the first domain name registered in ’85, while the first personal computers were just hitting the market. The Class of ’85 lived through a substantial technological evolution! We wore big hair, high-waisted/acid washed jeans, turned up collars, neon and pastel hues, leg warmers, fingerless gloves, scrunchies and tube socks with many looks in vogue from preppy to punk, and a mix of sporty and rebellious styles. The Class of ’85 voted Prince’s “Let’s Get Crazy” and Bryan Adams “Heaven” as our class songs, the daisy for class flower and blue and white as our class colors. May our class motto serve as a compass for all MSHS graduates— “Hold on to the memories, Reach for the future
