Brayden Burnett Memorial Welding Scholarship Fund
Description
The Brayden Burnett Memorial Welding Scholarship Fund was created to honor the life,
work ethic, and passion of Brayden Burnett by supporting students who share his dedication to
the skilled trades.
Brayden S. Burnett, a 2023 graduate of Marquette Senior High School, continued his education
through the Marquette-Alger Technical Middle College (MATMC) program, where he earned
his welding certification in 2024. Brayden worked tirelessly to master his craft, ultimately
achieving all 13 available welding certifications—a remarkable accomplishment that reflected
his determination, discipline, and pride in his work. In recognition of his character and
dedication, he was selected from his cohort to receive the Cody Revord Exceptional Student
of the Year Award.
From a young age, Brayden was known for his strong work ethic and eagerness to learn. He
began working for the City of Marquette on his sixteenth birthday and later continued his
welding career with Swick and DURR in Wisconsin. Brayden was a proud member of UA Local
400 Plumbers and Steamfitters and was completing his apprenticeship with Hurckman
Mechanical while working at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay—an achievement he
was deeply proud of as he built his future in the trades.
Beyond his accomplishments, Brayden was known for his big heart, kindness, and
old-fashioned values. He loved the outdoors and spending time with family and friends—riding
dirt bikes, mountain biking, snowmobiling, fishing, and exploring the places that brought him joy.
Those who knew Brayden remember him as someone who worked hard, cared deeply for
others, and brought warmth and energy wherever he went.
Established through the Marquette Area Public Schools Education Foundation, this
scholarship provides an annual $500 award to a graduating senior participating in the
Marquette-Alger Technical Middle College program who is pursuing a welding
certification. The scholarship is awarded once the recipient successfully completes their
certification, recognizing both their commitment and achievement.
The scholarship seeks to support students who reflect the qualities Brayden demonstrated
throughout his life: a strong work ethic, determination, responsibility, and a passion for
learning a skilled trade.
Through the generosity of family, friends, and community members, the Brayden Burnett
Memorial Welding Scholarship Fund helps ensure that Brayden’s legacy continues—supporting
future welders as they develop the skills and determination to build their own paths in the
trades.
Donations to the Brayden Burnett Memorial Welding Scholarship Fund help continue
Brayden’s legacy by supporting future welders from the Marquette community.
Contributions of any size are greatly appreciated and will directly support students
pursuing careers in the skilled trades.
