Catherine M. and Sarah L. Hawes



The Catherine M. Hawes English/Speech/Drama Scholarship is given through the Marquette Area Public Schools Education Foundation. Catherine Hawes started teaching at Graveraet High School in 1940. She taught English, radio, television, drama and forensics. She was also a counselor at Marquette Senior High School where she retired in 1970.

This scholarship was initiated by Sarah Hawes, in memory of her sister Catherine. The award is given to a graduating senior who shows interest and accomplishment in English, speech or drama, and demonstrates:
  • Academic achievement
  • Promising professional potential
  • Has been a student at Marquette Senior High School for a minimum of five full semesters
