Description

Duane Kramer first discovered the Upper Peninsula while on a motorcycle trip following service with the U.S. Army in Korea. He then called Marquette his home and found great joy in Lake Superior and the outdoors – camping, biking, skiing and sailing.

Mr. Kramer had a sense of adventure, including riding Harleys, living on a sailboat, and taking several trips to Italy. He was a great supporter of Marquette Area Public Schools.

The Duane Kramer Memorial Scholarship seeks to acknowledge environmental awareness, activism and conservation. The scholarship should be awarded to the student best exemplifying environmental awareness and concern, whether through a strong record of service or a commitment to environmental studies in the future. The chosen student should be a good steward of the environment through his/her lifestyle, speech and studies.

The following should be considered when selecting the award recipient:
  • Marquette Area Public Schools graduating senior
  • A person who has shown maturity and caught the eye of a teacher or coach
  • All GPA’s considered
