Description

The first annual Frances “Buzz” Brumm Music Scholarship will be distributed in 2023. The
scholarship was set up to celebrate Frances’s passion for music and successful career both as
a performer and a teacher.
Frances was a talented musician, trained classically in both piano and voice. She graduated
from Crystal Falls High School and received the Iron County Music Scholarship upon
graduation. She attended the University of Michigan as a Music Major. After moving to
Marquette in the 1950’s Frances sang for many years with the First United Methodist Chancel
choir as well as directed the junior choir there. Frances was a charter member of the Marquette
Choral Society and also served as its first President. Mrs. Brumm additionally taught numerous
Marquette students how to sing, or to play the piano or organ from her home. All six of her own
children participated in Marquette Senior High School choral and or band music groups.
Continuing with her love of music, Frances sang into her seventies with the Milwaukee
Symphony Chorus.
Prior to her death in 2022, Mrs. Brumm and her children agreed that establishing a music
scholarship in her name would be a wonderful way to honor her and her long career as a
teacher and performer.
