The Harold and Mary Lou Peterson Family Scholarships were established by Harold and Mary Lou in 2004 and awarded for the first time in 2005. Harold and Mary Lou were lifelong residents of the Marquette area, and lived and raised their family in Marquette Township. Both were active in the lives of their children, being youth activity leaders as well as active in community events in Marquette Township. They wanted to continue to support the youth of Marquette Township, thereby establishing the Harold and Mary Lou Peterson Family Scholarships. Each year the scholarships are given to two students from Marquette Township who display a strong desire to succeed, as well as demonstrate good social skills and attendance in school.
